LCA Learn-to-Skate (LTS) is a great way for your child to learn the basics of ice skating. Come have some fun and learn a lifelong skill!

What to expect:

  • We help any skater who has never skated before to be able to stand and move comfortably on the ice.
  • We help to work on improving techniques for those skaters who can already move on the ice.
  • We work on different skills like balance, skating forwards and backwards, starts, turns and stops.

Equipment needed:

  • Sharp skates with good ankle support, tied up tight & to the top eyelet.
  • A helmet that covers the front (needs to cover the skater’s forehead) and back of a skater’s head. (Bike helmets are not sufficient since they don’t offer appropriate protection for the back of the skater’s head.)
  • Regular winter mitts or gloves.
  • Come dressed to be on the ice for the whole class time
  • Please do not come to the rink if the parent/guardian or the skater is sick.

NOTE: For liability reasons, parents are not allowed on the ice during instruction of any LCA LTS children’s classes. Child(ren) must be able to be on their own for the complete class / 30 minutes. These are not parent & tot classes. You can reassure your child that you are just on the other side of the rink in the stands or behind the glass watching them learn to skate!

Wednesdays

  • Location: Balfour Arena at 68 Massey Rd

    • 5:00 to 5:30 PM for 3 & 4 years old – CLASS FULL – THANKS!
    • 5:30 to 6:00 PM for 5 & 6 years old – CLASS FULL – THANKS!
    • 6:00 to 6:30 PM for 7 to 12 years old – CLASS FULL – THANKS!
    • 6:30 to 7:00 PM for 18+
  • Cost: $100
  • Registration: winter 2026 opens Dec 11 at 6 PM online HERE

Saturdays

  • Location: Optimist Arena at 222 Sunset Drive
  • 2026 Winter Dates: Jan 17 to Mar 7

  • Times:
    • 3:45 to 4:30 PM for 4 to 6 years old – CLASS FULL – THANKS!
    • 4:30 to 5:15 PM for 6 to 12 years old – CLASS FULL – THANKS!
    • 5:15 to 6:00 PM for 12 to 16 years old – CLASS FULL – THANKS!
    • 6:00 to 6:30 PM for 18+
  • Cost: $100 + $5 for a community membership (unless you already have one for this year from Lakeview or any other community association)
  • Registration: winter 2026 opens Dec 8 at 6 PM online HERE
